Job summary

Aecon Civil field position based in Medicine Hat, Alberta, seeks an experienced Field Heavy-Duty Technician to provide preventative and corrective maintenance, inspections, system installation, and repairs for earthmoving and paving equipment. Work sites are active project locations with remote field duties.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of heavy equipment maintenance and repair experience.
• Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
• Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol program, including testing requirements.
• Fewer than 6 demerit points on driver's abstract.
• Excellent mechanical knowledge and demonstrated diagnostic ability.
• Able to perform heavy lifting and hands-on repair work in field conditions.
• Journeyperson Certificate (Red Seal) as a Heavy Equipment Technician.
• Dual trade certification will be considered an asset.
• Ability to travel to project sites and work varied shifts, extended hours, weekends, or on-call schedules when operationally required.
• Ability to work outdoors in changing weather and site conditions.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all Workplace Safety, Environmental, and National Safety Code policies and regulations are followed at project sites and field locations.
• Complete preventative maintenance procedures and repairs in accordance with OEM standards or company provided recommendations.
• Complete timely and accurate diagnostic of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic problems using diagnostic computers.
• Read diagrams, schematics, and manufacturers' repair manuals to determine procedures.
• Safely operate hoists, lifting devices, service equipment, and tools to repair machinery components.
• Inspect and examine equipment to identify defects, wear, and service requirements.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and complete field repairs to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work orders.
• Keep the assigned service vehicle, tools, parts, and work area organized and ready for use.
• Provide guidance and instruction to less experienced technicians and apprentice maintenance personnel.
• Recommend improvements to maintenance policies, procedures, and work practices.
• Demonstrate initiative, diligence, reliability, and ability to work with minimal supervision in remote or active construction environments.
• Perform other duties as required.
