Job summary

Thurber Engineering Ltd. invites applications for a Civil Engineering Technologist in Oakville, St. Catharines or Pickering, Ontario. You’ll work on varied projects in geotechnical, environmental and construction materials testing with mentorship from senior engineers.

The role requires a college civil technology program, registration with OACETT or eligibility, and strong communication skills. A valid G license and willingness to travel to sites are expected.

Qualifications

• Completion of a College program in Civil Engineering Technology;
• 1 to 2 year work experience in the field of construction materials testing;
• Registration with OACETT or immediate eligibility;
• Concrete Testing Certificate from CCIL is an asset;
• This position would appeal to those who thrive in a fast pace and able to work effectively in a team environment;
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
• Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing);
• Proficiency with spoken and written English is required;
• Flexible schedule, with the ability to work overtime and/or weekends as required;
• Valid Class G Drivers license is required; and,
• Driving record will be requested.

Responsibilities

• Provide construction inspection and quality control/assurance testing for various infrastructure and transportation projects;
• Conduct field compaction testing of soils;
• Carry out laboratory testing on soils and concrete;
• Carry out field concrete testing as per CSA requirements;
• Conduct pile construction monitoring for driven steel and cast-in-place concrete piles;
• Liaise with project engineers and client’s site representatives; and,
• Travel to construction sites.
