Job summary

Thurber Engineering Ltd. in Victoria, British Columbia, invites applications for a Field and Laboratory Technician to join our geotechnical and environmental testing team.

You will perform soil, concrete and asphalt testing, conduct in situ testing on construction sites, and provide QA/QC support while communicating results to project engineers and clients. The role requires a high school diploma, a valid Class 5 driver’s licence, the ability to lift 50 lbs, and a willingness to work flexible

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with acceptable driving record.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform field work in all weather.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including out-of-town assignments, overtime, weekends and nights.

Responsibilities

• Provide construction review and quality control/assurance testing for projects on Vancouver Island.
• Perform laboratory testing of soils, concrete and asphalt.
• Ensure all work conforms to CCIL, ASTM and other standards.
• Communicate results to clients, contractors and project engineers.
• Contribute to a team environment while working independently.
• Liaise with project engineers and client site representatives.
• Uphold strong workplace health and safety practices.
• Conduct in situ testing on construction sites.
