Job summary

Valard Construction in Port Hawkesbury, NS, is seeking a Civil Superintendent to lead heavy civil earthworks and site development on an electrical infrastructure project. The role covers grading, haul roads, subgrade prep, and underground utilities, with field leadership and strict safety adherence.

This field-based position may require travel and camp accommodations, with schedules set by project needs. 7+ years in similar roles and a valid driver's license are preferred.

Qualifications

• 7 years of experience in a Civil Superintendent or similar role on large-scale heavy civil projects.
• Proven ability to supervise crews of 20+ across earthworks, grading, and underground utilities.
• Ability to interpret engineered drawings and translate them to field execution.
• Experience with subgrade preparation, final grade development, excavation, and culvert/utility installation.
• Knowledge of QA/QC programs for civil/earthworks scope.

Responsibilities

• Oversee civil operations through task delegation and productivity monitoring to ensure team efficiency.
• Manage daily heavy civil construction activities and coordinate tasks safely and productively.
• Interpret engineering drawings and designs to implement construction plans within project scope.
• Administer and enforce QA/QC across civil work and earthworks activities.
• Direct haul road construction, subgrade prep, and ground prep for utilities and crane pads.
• Oversee final grade development, excavation for utilities, and general earthworks on site.
• Plan manpower and resources across multiple concurrent fronts and monitor progress against schedule and budget.
