Job summary

The Ministry of Environment & Parks within the BC Public Service is seeking a Natural Resource Officer to join the Coast Area. This on-site role involves inspections, compliance testing, and investigations to ensure adherence to resource legislation, with duties spanning from evidence gathering to enforcement actions across diverse terrains.

You will operate in Campbell River, Chilliwack, Nanaimo, Squamish and other BC locations, supporting responsible resource use and environmental protection.

Qualifications

  • Education/experience requirements for natural resource law enforcement; multiple acceptable paths.
  • University/technical diploma in natural resource management or equivalent combinations accepted.
  • Requires BC Class 5 license or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Willingness to be designated as Special Provincial Constable per policy.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work non-standard hours, weekends.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather and terrain; operate off-road vehicles/boats with future certification.
  • Must hold or obtain a Basic First Aid certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections, compliance testing, and investigations to enforce legislation and licences.
  • Gather evidence for quasi-judicial or criminal proceedings and support enforcement actions.
  • Engage with the public, Indigenous communities, and agencies to protect land, water, wildlife, and forests.

Education

Applied degree or diploma in natural resource law enforcement
University degree or technical diploma in natural resource management
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid BC Class 5 Driver's license
Willing to be designated as Special Provincial Constable
Willing to travel frequently
Willing to work weekends and non-standard shifts
Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather and challenging terrain
Willing to operate off-road vehicles and boats (certification to obtain)
Basic First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain immediately upon hire)
