Job summary

BAAC Construction is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the design and permitting of long-haul fibre optic networks across Alberta. You will guide internal teams and external partners from route selection through permits to IFC packages.

You will build BAAC's design standards, manage schedules, and provide clear updates to leadership while ensuring environmental and regulatory requirements are met. Calgary-based role with regional travel.

Qualifications

• Experience in telecommunications design with long-haul fibre.
• Proven Alberta design and permitting experience (urban & rural).
• Leadership experience managing internal and external design resources.
• Experience securing Municipal Access Agreements (MAAs) with Alberta municipalities.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end long-haul fibre design packages across Alberta.
• Oversee route feasibility, path engineering, and data integration.
• Review OSP designs, BOMs, splice plans, drawings, and crossings.
• Develop internal design standards and as-built procedures.
• Manage permitting strategy and MAAs with municipalities.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and environmental consultants.
