Family Support Worker – Nipigon, ON

Permanent, Full Time (33.75 hours/week).

The Family Support Worker provides support to Child Protection Workers in the Nipigon District Office, primarily focusing on scheduling and facilitating supervised access. The role involves supporting families, children, and youth through a range of social services that contribute to therapeutic plans and programs. This position is ideal for individuals interested in rural social work, working collaboratively from a strength-based perspective. Position Requirements
  • Child and Youth Worker Diploma or equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience or education demonstrating ability to contribute to a diverse, inclusive culture and eliminate disparities in service outcomes.
  • Thorough knowledge of child development stages and ability to identify developmental delays due to trauma or environmental factors.
  • Understanding of risk factors related to child maltreatment, attachment dynamics, and the importance of maintaining child connections.
  • Ability to engage trustfully with children and families, work collaboratively, and assess risks during interactions.
  • Valid G Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel within the district.
  • Effective communication, organization, and planning skills.
  • Knowledge of permanency planning and concurrent planning in child welfare.
  • Ability to provide parenting support through feedback, coaching, and collaborative goal setting.
  • Strong observation skills and critical thinking regarding parent-child interactions.
  • Time management skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Commitment to teamwork and a safe, inclusive work environment.
  • Successful criminal background check (Vulnerable Sector).
