Role and Facility Information

Come work as a Family Physician with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking qualified physicians to join our team and deliver exceptional care to our Vancouver community. We offer flexibility for family physicians to work in a variety of different programs and settings, including:

  1. Primary Care Clinics (with a focus on at-risk populations)
  2. Long-Term Care
  3. Older Adult Care in a range of settings
  4. Mental Health and Substance Use Services
  5. Urgent and Primary Care Centres
  6. Community Palliative Care (including hospice)
  7. Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)

Whether you are just starting your career, or are already an established physician, we will work with you to tailor a job that fits your interests and allows you to challenge yourself. We can offer part-time, full-time or temporary (locum) opportunities.

Education, Licensing, & Experience:
  1. Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP) Eligible – Mandatory
  2. Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory
  3. Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) License – Full/Provisional

Specific training requirements may be needed for certain programs:
  1. Palliative Care – Candidates should meet at least one of the following 3 criteria:
    1. Recognized with a Certificate of Added Competency in Palliative Care by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP-PC);
    2. Completed “Year of Added Competency” training in Palliative Care at an accredited training site;
    3. Holder of Palliative Medicine credentials earned in another jurisdiction that are acceptable to both the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia and the governing body of the Health Authority and its Affiliates.
  2. Addiction Medicine:
    • May need completed Addiction Medicine Fellowship/Enhanced Skills
    • May need to have completed Provincial Opioid Treatment Support Program

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
