Job summary

The Palliative Care Physician Group in Island Health in Port Alberni, BC seeks a part-time or full-time permanent palliative care physician to provide care across multiple settings including hospital, hospice, home visits, and community outreach.

Responsibilities include on-call duties for rural palliative care, outpatient and home visits, and teaching/mentoring medical learners with potential UBC faculty appointment eligibility.

• Teaching and supervision of medical learners (requires eligibility for faculty appointment with UBC).

Role and Facility Information

The Palliative Care Physician Group in Island Health have a part-time or full-time permanent position available for a palliative care physician in Port Alberni BC able to work in a variety of clinical settings including community home visits and a local hospice.

Description Of Role

• Provision of palliative care consults and follow ups in West Coast General Hospital and the local 4 bed hospice, Ty Watson House.
• Provision of outpatient and home visit palliative care consults within the Port Alberni area with occasional outreach to the west coast of Vancouver Island including Tofino/Ucluelet (driver’s license and car are required)
• Participation in the rural & remote palliative care on-call schedule
• Teaching and supervision of medical learners (requires eligibility for faculty appointment with UBC)

Benefits

May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:

• Recruitment Incentive - $10,000
• Fee Premium - 7.98%
• Annual Flat Fee - $12,110.22
• Rural CME starting at $2200/annum in year 3&4 in community, increasing to a maximum of $4400/annum after 4 years.
• Rural Practice Subsidiary Agreement - Province of British Columbia (gov.bc.ca)
