Engagement: Vitalis Health Strategies has been retained by a physician-led primary care clinic to recruit a dedicated Family Physician.

About the Client

Our client is a physician-led, patient-centred primary care practice committed to delivering comprehensive, evidence-based healthcare. Supported by an interdisciplinary team of nurse practitioners, registered nurses, allied health professionals, and administrative staff, the clinic emphasizes preventive care, chronic disease management, and seamless coordination across the healthcare continuum. Their leadership team of experienced family physicians drives continuous quality improvement and innovation in care delivery.

Position Summary

As a Family Physician, you will serve as a clinical leader—providing holistic primary care to patients of all ages, from newborns to seniors. You’ll collaborate closely with nurse practitioners and nursing staff to assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic conditions, develop individualized care plans, and promote long-term wellness in the community.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Management

  • Perform thorough histories and physical exams, diagnose and manage illnesses, and oversee chronic disease care (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, COPD).
  • Offer age-appropriate preventive services, including immunizations, cancer screenings, and lifestyle counselling.
  • Conduct minor office procedures (e.g., skin biopsies, joint injections) as required.
  • Coordinate specialist referrals and review incoming consult reports for follow-up.
  • Co-manage complex cases alongside nurse practitioners, mentoring staff through case conferences and shared patient rounds.
  • Lead regular interdisciplinary meetings to optimize care pathways and patient flow.
  • Contribute to development and revision of clinical protocols, ensuring alignment with current best practices.

Patient Education & Community Engagement

  • Educate patients and families on disease prevention, management strategies, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Represent the clinic at community health events and liaise with local agencies to support population health initiatives.

Quality Improvement & Administration

  • Maintain accurate EMR documentation—including notes, prescriptions, lab follow-up, and care plans—meeting CPSA standards.
  • Participate in peer-review and audit cycles to drive improvements in clinical metrics (e.g., screening uptake, wait times).
  • Provide on-call support on a rotating basis, ensuring continuity of care.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Licensure in good standing with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
  • New graduates, along with experience physicians welcome to apply.
  • Current BLS certification; ACLS an asset.

Clinical Excellence: Broad family medicine expertise across all life stages.

Leadership & Collaboration: Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor colleagues.

Communication: Clear, empathetic communicator, adept at complex care discussions.

Organization: Strong time-management, triage, and documentation skills.

Adaptability: Comfortable practicing in an evolving team-based model under physician leadership.

Cultural Sensitivity: Responsive to diverse patient backgrounds, committed to equity in care.
