Job description

Location: Remote – Preference given to candidates residing in Victoria, with secondary preference for those on Vancouver Island, and third preference for those in the Lower Mainland

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: $100,000 – $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience, with potential bonus (50% of what you bill after a reasonable billable target)

Start Date: Flexible, rather sooner than later (Summer 2025)

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Family Law Lawyer (2+ years post-call) who is comfortable managing all aspects of family law litigation and dispute resolution independently. This is a full-time remote position that offers the flexibility of working from home while maintaining a high level of responsibility and client care.

The ideal candidate will be confident in leading files from start to finish and capable of handling a broad range of matters without direct supervision. You will also have access to a legal assistant and will occasionally collaborate or consult with the principal lawyer as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently manage a full caseload of family law files from intake to resolution
• Conduct chambers applications, trials, discoveries, mediations, and arbitrations
• Draft pleadings, affidavits, agreements, and correspondence
• Represent clients in both Provincial and Supreme Court (virtually and in person)
• Engage in settlement discussions and alternative dispute resolution processes
• Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and the court
• Maintain organized electronic files and manage all aspects of file progression
• Collaborate and consult with the principal lawyer as appropriate

Qualifications

• Member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia
• Minimum of 2 years of post-call experience practicing family law in BC
• Confident in handling litigation and dispute resolution independently
• Excellent drafting, advocacy, and file management skills
• Able to work remotely with strong time management and minimal oversight
• Willing and able to travel for court appearances and client matters—primarily on Vancouver Island, with occasional travel to the Lower Mainland
• Holds a valid BC driver’s licence and has access to reliable transportation

Location Preferences

• First preference: Candidates residing in Victoria, BC
• Second preference: Candidates residing elsewhere on Vancouver Island
• Third preference: Candidates residing in the Lower Mainland

Assets (Not Required)

• Second language fluency, especially in East Asian languages such as Cantonese or Mandarin
• Familiarity with remote litigation/ADR tools (Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
• A calm, professional, and trauma-informed communication style
