Family Law Clerk - Permanent Position in Vaughan, Ontario
Duties & Responsibilities
- Draft various court and legal documents related to affidavits, motion materials, minutes of settlement, continuing records, conference briefs, orders, etc.
- Prepare and assemble briefs and other materials for case conferences, hearings, motions, and trials.
- Draft correspondence to the court, opposing counsel, and external parties.
- Create charts summarizing support payments and extraordinary expenses.
- Review and summarize productions received from clients, opposing counsel, and external parties.
- Prepare financial disclosure briefs and Financial & Net Family Property statements.
- Assist in managing uncontested divorce files from inception to completion.
- Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, court trial coordinators, and other external parties.
- Schedule appointments, monitor the lawyer's calendar, respond to inquiries, and document interactions.
- Perform other duties as required, such as faxing, scanning, and filing.
Qualifications
- Completion of a Law Clerk Diploma and/or Paralegal License/Diploma.
- Minimum of 3+ years of relevant Family Law Clerk experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Clio, PC Law, Divorcemate, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Teams.
- Experience with service and filing of court documents, complying with court protocols.
- Solid understanding of legal terminology and civil procedure court rules.
- Excellent communication skills and adaptability in communication style.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with flexibility.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Work ethic and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
