Rank Assistant Professor Tenure Information Tenure Track Position Details

The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin as early as July 1, 2025, subject to budgetary approval. Hiring salary will range from $79,132 to $94,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. (or be ABD with a set defense date) in Philosophy or a closely related field, with a specialization in Ethics.

We seek applicants with a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality research, and potential for securing research funding. The successful candidate will also show clear evidence of success or potential with respect to both teaching and service to their profession, the university, and the department. Evidence of an ability to forge interdisciplinary collaborations and engage with the community will be considered an asset.

The successful applicant will teach courses and supervise graduate students in their areas of specialization. They will have primary responsibility for the Department’s offerings in ethics, at all levels. Among general ethics courses, and offerings in the candidate’s area of special expertise, this also includes a course in bioethics. Applicants should demonstrate how their areas of competence can complement the Department’s existing strengths. The ability to teach from a non-Western perspective would be of value.

Our Department

The Department of Philosophy has an energetic and ambitious group of faculty members with research and teaching strengths in Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Language, Social and Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Law, Logic, Argumentation Theory, Pragmatism, and Feminist Philosophy. Members have recently established the Critical Thinking and Citizen Engagement Lab, which hosts events that bring together faculty, students, and community members from across the region and the country. We have a vibrant student culture, with a yearly undergraduate conference and an active philosophy club that has frequent philosophy discussions and maintains its own undergraduate philosophy room. Additionally, the Department has a growing M.A. program that we are committed to diversifying and expanding in the coming years.
