Job summary

Nestlé Canada is seeking a Factory Maintenance & Operations Manager located at 72 Sterling Rd, Toronto, ON. This role leads maintenance activities to safeguard health, safety, product quality and environmental standards while driving plant performance and business objectives.

You will manage capital projects, energy efficiency programs, and coordinate maintenance staff to meet site goals, with a focus on continuous improvement and Nestlé Best Practices.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in engineering.
  • 5-7 years experience in a technical field; preferably in food manufacturing or consumer goods.
  • Knowledge of food safety and regulatory requirements (OSH&R) and hygiene engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input to site policies, goals and objectives.
  • Develop, implement and coordinate capital budget to improve equipment/facilities.
  • Manage capital projects including requests, design and implementation.
  • Develop short- and long-range engineering/maintenance goals for site expansion and improvements.

A day in the life of a Factory Maintenance & Operations Manager

Manage the Maintenance activities relating to the factory such that employee health and safety, product safety and the protection of the environment are never compromised and that all engineering activities enhance product quality, plant performance and the business objectives. The Maintenance Manger is a key member of the factory management team.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Provide input to the Management Team during the establishment of site policies, goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of the capital budget to improve and maintain equipment and facilities.
  • Responsible for plant energy costs and efficiencies. Responsible for the research and implementation of projects and programs to continually reduce energy costs and improved utilization.
  • Manage the Capital project process, including Capital requests, design and implementation, utilizing site, divisional and contract resources.
  • Manage the development of short- and long-range Engineering and Maintenance goals for site expansion and site improvements while maintaining a low cost, highly efficient site.
  • Manage Maintenance projects to meet project and site objectives.
  • Manage, coordinate and monitor activities of the Maintenance personnel.
  • Develop and maintain divisional and site Maintenance standards.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and discipline to department personnel as needed.
  • Manage the Maintenance Progression Program.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Inspects andadviseson all areas of the plant for equipment design, evaluation and troubleshooting. Directs the installation of new equipment and/or modification/rearrangement of existing equipment for assigned projects. Responsible for the review and approval of equipment purchase orders, contract service orders and plant service agreements.
  • Responsible for the coordination of the operations of electrical power service, compressed gases, water, sewer, HVAC, plant-wide lighting, buildings, grounds, and fire protection systems to provide uninterrupted service.
  • Responsible for Explosive Atmospheres, Steam, Combustion, Pressure Systems, Electrical, and Automation for the facility.
  • Responsible for all outside contractors to assure compliance with all company standards including sanitation, safety, quality, productivity and budgeting.
  • Researchesand utilizes the latest engineering maintenance technologies to enhance the plant’s operations.
  • Provide technical support to Maintenance.
  • Provide training and career development for Maintenance staff.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervising the maintenance function of the plant facilities and equipment for specific daily maintenance in their respective areas.
  • Coordinates staffing requirements within the departments and establishes standards of measurement for the Maintenance Departments performance and administers performance appraisals for all department team members.
  • Sets the direction for maintenance training by providing leadership, support, and training necessary for the development of each team member as a valued and critical resource.Developsshort and long-term goals and strategies of the Maintenance Departments.
  • Knowledgeable in Machinery Safety Hazard Analysis, OSHA, requirements and assures that the site and equipmentmeetsthe requirements.
  • Promptly address departmental issues and drive resolution.
  • Maintain and enforce food safety, sanitation and quality standards per company NQMS procedures and local regulations
  • Maintain and enforce safety, health and environmental policies and standards
  • Knowledgeable in Nestle Best Practices, policies and procedures and assures compliance.

Role Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma in engineering, preferably mechanical / electrical / chemical / process engineering.
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years experience in a technical field, preferable in food manufacturing or consumer goods industry, including Maintenance responsibilities. Strong technical and managerial skills.
  • Project Engineering/Management - Plant Design & Construction.
  • Industrial Services and Energy Management (NEMT).
  • Good understanding of electricity, control and automation.
  • In-depth knowledge of food processing plant and technology.
  • Maintenance technologies.
  • Operation of utilities.
  • Knowledge of food safety, regulatory requirements for food safety and hygienic engineering (OSH&R).
  • Analytical skills in problem solving.
