GrizzlyTrek Group Ltd. is seeking a Landfill Operator for our Cold Lake, Alberta site on a 7 days on, 7 days off rotation. This full-time role involves hands-on operation of heavy equipment and daily site administration.

You will place waste, grade surfaces, and document activities in compliance with facility approvals while coordinating with drivers, customers, and the site team in a dynamic, outdoor environment.

The Role

GrizzlyTrek is seeking one Landfill Operator to join our valued client's team at an engineered landfill facility in Cold Lake, Alberta. This is a full-time position working a 7 days on, 7 days off rotation.

This role goes beyond running equipment. You will own the day to day operation of the site, making sure waste is placed, graded, and documented safely and in full compliance with facility approvals and operating standards. You will work alongside truck drivers, customers, contractors, and the site team to keep the operation clean, organized, and performing well. The Facility

The site is a Class II industrial landfill built and operated to meet current environmental and regulatory standards. It sits off Highway 892 north of Fort Kent, with reliable year-round access for haul traffic in every season.

Accepted waste streams include contaminated soil, drill cuttings, spill material, lime sludge, industrial waste solids, asbestos, construction and demolition debris, sulphur-impacted soil, and oil processing solids.

What You'll Do
  • Operate landfill equipment safely and efficiently, including dozers, loaders, and compactors
  • Manage waste placement, grading, and daily landfill operations to maintain site integrity and compliance
  • Apply regulatory and operating approvals for the facility, including material classifications and what can and cannot be accepted
  • Track and document waste volumes, load information, and daily operational activity accurately
  • Maintain haul roads, working faces, and general site housekeeping to a high standard
  • Support customers, drivers, and contractors with safe and efficient site access and logistics
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and coordinate basic maintenance activities
  • Issue Safe Work Permits and confirm work is completed safely
  • Identify hazards, report incidents, and take action when something is not right
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and compliance audits, and keep standard operating procedures current
  • Handle daily administrative duties including ticketing, data entry, reporting, and documentation
What You Bring
  • Experience operating heavy equipment in landfill, construction, oilfield, or industrial environments
  • Confidence operating dozers, loaders, compactors, or similar heavy equipment safely and efficiently
  • Working knowledge of site safety and environmental compliance requirements
  • Ability to balance hands on equipment work with administrative tasks and documentation
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with customers, drivers, and teammates
  • Reliability and the focus to perform through long shifts, including nights
  • A commitment to doing the work properly, not just quickly
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean abstract
  • Current safety tickets such as H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, and Ground Disturbance
  • Experience working under a formal permit system or issuing Safe Work Permits
  • Familiarity with Alberta environmental approvals and waste classification
  • Asbestos awareness training or experience handling regulated waste streams
Work Environment

Work is outdoors and hands on, in all seasons and weather conditions, on a fast moving site where priorities shift through the day. Shifts run 12 hours on a 7 days on, 7 days off rotation and include nights. Personal protective equipment is required at all times, and all activity is carried out under the site emergency response plan, health and safety manual, and facility approvals.
