Job summary

The City of Guelph is seeking a part-time Facility Operations/Cleaner at River Run Centre (35 Woolwich Street) in downtown Guelph. This in-person role supports performers, patrons and staff to maintain a clean, safe environment for events and community programs.

Shifts include evenings and weekends, with 10–20 hours per week. Key duties include cleaning duties across the facility, replenishing supplies, assisting with outdoor areas, and following health and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent.
  • Custodial, janitorial, housekeeping experience is an asset.
  • Experience in public/entertainment venues is an asset.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and lifting techniques.
  • WHMIS certification and familiarity with health and safety laws are assets.
  • Excellent attention to detail and safety.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to perform duties including standing, walking, bending, lifting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning duties throughout the facility, including floors, washrooms, and spaces.
  • Restock cleaning products and assist with facility materials.
  • Maintain outdoor areas by removing litter and keeping entrances clean.
  • Follow health, safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Support facility operations and guest experience with team members.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Located in the heart of downtown Guelph, the River Run Centre is a magnificent performing arts center that opened in October 1997. The Centre houses a 786-seat Main Stage Theatre, the 225-seat Studio Theatre and the large Canada Company Hall, a communal lobby which is also multi-purpose.

Position Overview

River Run Centre is seeking a Facility Operations/Cleaner to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for performers, patrons, staff, and visitors. Through custodial and facility support duties, you will play an important role in supporting the successful delivery of performances, events, and community programs while contributing to the City of Guelph's vision of an inclusive, connected, and prosperous community.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of cleaning duties throughout the facility, including: Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and floor care
    • Cleaning windows, mirrors, washrooms, and workspaces
    • Waste and recycling collection and disposal
    • Responding to spills and cleaning emergencies in a timely manner
  • Replenish cleaning products, washroom supplies, and other facility materials as required.
  • Assist with maintaining outdoor areas by removing litter and helping keep entrances and surrounding spaces clean and presentable.
  • Follow established health, safety, and sanitation procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to support facility operations and guest experience.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements

  • High school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or facility cleaning experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a public venue, entertainment venue, or large facility is an asset.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, including proper material handling and lifting techniques.
  • WHMIS certification and familiarity with Ontario health and safety legislation are assets.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to interact respectfully and professionally with colleagues, clients, and visitors.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing operational needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting within established workplace safety guidelines.

Hours of work10-20 hours per week, shifts will vary, including evenings and weekends.

Shifts offered will be scheduled either between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Sunday through Saturday.
