Job summary

Maven Lane, Vernon’s longtime childcare provider, seeks a Maintenance Person to uphold safety and upkeep for 100+ staff and 500+ children. The role covers repairs, inspections, and daily grounds maintenance across four sites, with emphasis on reliable, hands-on care.

The ideal candidate brings diverse trade experience and a hands-on, team-oriented approach, with strong communication skills and a commitment to high standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in building maintenance.
  • Ability to perform repairs as needed.
  • Red Seal / Journeyman (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical) is an asset.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Complete repairs of equipment, structures, and grounds on the property.
  • Perform regular property inspections of units, common areas, building exteriors and landscape.
  • Troubleshooting and repair to mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
  • Routine maintenance such as ventilation, heating, cooling, general maintenance, landscaping, snow removal, and other daily activities.
  • General contracting projects.
  • Maintain logbooks and tool and material inventory.
  • Assist with maintenance mechanics to ensure working within the facility.
  • Perform minor repairs on windows, doors, switches, desks, tables, plugs, equipment, appliances, sinks, toilets, blinds etc.
  • Assist with vandalism cleanup and repair within skills level.
  • Assist with setup of rooms or auditoriums for meetings, parties, or various other activities and cleans up afterwards.
  • Maintain outside grounds (snow, ice, debris, weeds, gutters, sprinkling system).

Job description

As the Maintenance Person, you will be responsible for daily upkeep of all four childcare sites while ensuring a safe and professional work environment for 100+ employees and over 500 children. Key responsibilities include completing Centre maintenance, completing general repairs, daily cleaning, and maintaining grounds in a timely fashion and ensuring all work is conducted in a safe, effective manner, aligned with our vision, mission and values.

The ideal candidate would have a varied background and skill set. Experience in multiple trades would be an asset. This position includes a wide variety of duties, an ideal candidate would be a ‘handy person’ with an ability to complete a broad spectrum of tasks daily.

  • Required Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience in building maintenance. Ability to perform repairs as needed. Applicable Red Seal /Journeyman i.e. HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical is an asset.
