Work Hours: 35 hours/week, Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm

Work Setting: Onsite - Limited opportunities for remote work
Salary: Internal Rate: G: 55,201.79

Program Overview

This position reports to the ROP Manager and involves working collaboratively within the ROP team to plan and conduct Rites of Passage programming for youth participants as they progress through their journey.

A sound understanding of African and African-derived history is essential, including knowledge of the current status of African-Canadian youth in society, social determinants of health, education, income, criminal justice, child welfare, social services, community development, and familiarity with African-derived Life Cycle processes. The role requires active outreach and coordination with schools, community centers, recreational facilities, libraries, community organizations, and natural spaces where youth gather.

What You Will Do
  • Engage youth groups in the ROP process, community service, employment support, and facilitate connections with relevant institutions, schools, youth workers, and community organizations.
  • Support outreach to African-Canadian youth, including post-secondary students, youth out of school and work, and those interacting with systems like criminal justice and child welfare.
  • Collaborate with the Rites of Passage team, Eldership Advisory Circle, WoodGreen management, community members, and other youth service providers to promote ROP as a pathway for personal development.
  • Assist in developing and implementing quality assurance frameworks for Rites of Passage.
  • Support planning and facilitation of Rites of Passage activities, ensuring service standards are upheld and centered on the needs of African-Canadian youth and communities.
  • Address emerging issues with the team and management, proposing solutions for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in curriculum development, resource creation, and team activities related to Rites of Passage.
  • Represent WoodGreen professionally and maintain confidentiality of clients and program information.
  • Ensure organizational commitments to equity, anti-racism, and community development are reflected in the program.
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, and perform other duties as required.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Undergraduate Degree in Social Work, College Diploma in Social Service Work, or related field, with at least 3 years of experience working directly with youth.
  • Experience in culturally responsive programming and familiarity with African-centered maturation models is a strong asset.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and group facilitation skills.
