Job summary

VHA Home HealthCare in Ontario is seeking a Home Support worker to perform in-home cleaning and light custodial tasks, enabling clients to live independently. You will follow client instructions, use client-provided products, and maintain schedules with accuracy.

We value compassionate, reliable staff; travel across Durham is required and a valid Ontario driver’s license is mandatory. Benefits and development opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year's experience in private or institutional cleaning.
  • Experience working with vulnerable clients is an asset.
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Ability to work independently while following pre-set instructions and cooperate with care team.
  • Ability to read and write English at least Grade 8.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a combination of home cleaning services including washing floors, sinks, and related surfaces; vacuuming, dusting and wiping down fridge and stove exterior; laundry and ironing; emptying wastebaskets; polishing furniture; washing interior windows; organizing cupboards, stoves and fridges.
  • Performs tasks according to client specifications and using client-provided products/equipment, as arranged by the agency.
  • Completes time-keeping protocols and submits accurately and on time.
  • Participates in team meetings and contributes to service development.
  • Participates on project teams as appropriate.
  • Shares workload for positive results.

Pay Range

$22.42 - $25.17 (placement on salary range as per Collective Agreement)

Key Areas of Accountability

The following responsibilities are key areas of accountability but not limited to:

  • Performs a combination of home cleaning services including washing floors, sinks, and related surfaces; vacuuming, dusting and wiping down fridge and stove exterior; laundry and ironing; emptying wastebaskets; polishing furniture; washing accessible interior windows; and cleaning and organizing the inside of cupboards, stoves and fridges.
  • Performs tasks according to the client's specifications, and using the client's products and equipment, according to a pre-set time allowance as arranged by the agency. The client arranges for a specific set of tasks, however, any task, may be added or replaced at the client's specific request.
  • Completes time-keeping protocols ensuring accuracy and timely submission in accordance with VHA policy.
  • Participates in team meetings as requested, with a commitment to contribution and service development.
  • Participates on project teams as appropriate.
  • Shares in handling workload for positive results.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year's experience in private or institutional cleaning.
  • Experience working with vulnerable clients who are dealing with age-related health conditions and/or mental disabilities is an asset.
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Ability to work independently while following pre-set instructions and work cooperatively with the care-giving team.
  • Ability to read and write English (equivalent to the Grade 8 level).
  • Must be flexible to be able to support a diverse client group.
  • G License and driving is mandatory.
  • Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license, access to a vehicle and willingness to travel across Durham.
