Job description

The Kwanlin Dün First Nation is seeking applications for those who wish to be considered for the School Crossing Guard. Reporting to the Manager of School-Age Education, this position is responsible for the safety of the students crossing the road to attend Elijah Smith School. The School Crossing Guard will be a positive role model and leader to the KDFN children. The program will operate seasonally during the days that the school is open, from September until June (10 months).

Job requirements & conditions of employment:
  • Willingness to work split shifts, flexible work arrangements possible;
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time;
  • Working outdoors with exposure to weather elements;
  • Constant attention (both sight and hearing) to identify hazards;
  • Clear criminal records check with vulnerable sector check;
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification;
  • Valid Yukon driver’s license is an asset.
Considerations for this opportunity include:
  • Completion of eighth grade; or equivalent schooling and experience to perform essential duties of the job;
  • Knowledge of Yukon Traffic Laws, basic safe driving rules and procedures, and emergency procedures;
  • Ability to gain the attention and cooperation of school children and other pedestrians;
  • Ability to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions;
  • Ability to work effectively with supervisors, children, parents, and school employees;
  • Ability to observe and record license numbers and incident details accurately;
