Job summary

Laporte, a consulting engineering firm with a broad North American footprint, seeks an Electrical Engineer for Calgary, Edmonton or Lethbridge. You will own projects from concept to completion, work largely independently, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on medium and low voltage systems.

Ideal candidates have 7–8 years in electrical consulting for agri-food, pharma or related industries, strong communication skills, and a willingness to travel to sites.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering with 7–8 years of consulting experience.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, manage priorities and deliver results with minimal oversight.
  • Experience as an Electrical Engineer consultant in agri-food, pharmaceutical or food & beverage industries preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Independently modelling medium voltage and low voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Interpreting specifications, resolving design and field issues, and coordinating work schedules.
  • Developing and preparing project specifications and conducting technical research.
  • Co-ordinating with equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Participating in studies and preparing reports; supporting construction cost estimates.
  • Reviewing shop drawings for conformity with equipment specs and client needs.
  • Mentoring junior E.I.T.s and collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Taking ownership of projects and managing workload with minimal supervision.

Electrical Engineer - Calgary, Edmonton or Lethbridge

This is an autonomous role for an experienced Electrical Engineer who can take ownership of assigned projects from concept through completion and work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision, while still collaborating closely within a multi-disciplinary design team.

Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Independently modelling medium voltage and low voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Interpreting engineering specifications, independently resolving design and field engineering difficulties, and coordinating work schedules;
  • Developing, coordinating and preparing project specifications;
  • Conducting technical research related to electrical systems;
  • Co-ordinating with equipment manufacturers and suppliers;
  • Participating in technical studies and preparing reports;
  • Supporting development of construction cost estimates;
  • Reviewing shop drawings for conformity with equipment specifications;
  • Supporting positive client interactions and business development activities;
  • Mentoring junior E.I.T.'s and providing training.
  • Working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary design team.
  • Taking full ownership of assigned projects, exercising sound independent judgment and managing your own workload with minimal supervision.
Key Requirements:
  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 7-8 years of relevant experience in consulting.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously - managing your own priorities, exercising independent judgment and delivering results with minimal oversight.
  • Professional work experience as an Electrical Engineer consultant in the agri-food, pharmaceutical or food and beverage industries. Other industry may be considered depending on skills and experience.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to project sites
  • Experienced in leading and managing design projects, proposals, on-site commissioning, and/or power system studies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of local, Provincial and National regulations and standards related to electrical design.
  • Good knowledge of electrical utility standards and design criteria.
