Responsibilities

• Load and blast long-hole production holes according to approved blast plans.
• Prepare primers, explosives, detonators, and initiation systems per site procedures.
• Inspect drilled holes and verify hole condition, depth, and readiness for loading.
• Follow blast layouts, charging instructions, and engineered designs.
• Identify and report blocked holes, damaged holes, misfires, or other blasting hazards.
• Establish blast exclusion zones and safeguards.
• Complete blast reports and explosive-use records.
• Inspect blast areas before and after firing per site procedures.
• Coordinate with drilling, engineering, supervision, and production crews.
• Follow all regulations and underground safety requirements.

Job description

Thyssen Mining Construction of Canada is a recognized leader in the underground mine construction industry. We are seeking multiple experienced Long Hole Blasters to support underground production operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for loading and blasting long-hole production rounds safely and efficiently in accordance with engineered blast designs and site procedures.

• Prior underground mining experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Load and blast long-hole production holes according to approved blast plans.
• Prepare primers, explosives, detonators, and initiation systems in accordance with site procedures.
• Inspect drilled holes and verify hole condition, depth, and readiness for loading.
• Follow blast layouts, charging instructions, timing sequences, and engineered designs.
• Identify and report blocked holes, damaged holes, misfires, or other blasting hazards.
• Establish and maintain required blast exclusion zones and safeguards.
• Complete blast reports, explosive-use records, and other required documentation.
• Inspect blast areas before and after firing in accordance with site procedures.
• Coordinate with drilling, engineering, supervision, and production crews.
• Follow all explosives regulations, mine-site procedures, and underground safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Previous Long Hole Blaster / Production Blaster experience in underground hard-rock mining.
• Underground gold mining experience is preferred.
• Valid blasting certification/license required for the applicable jurisdiction.
• Experience with bulk explosives and underground initiation systems.
• Ability to read and follow blast plans, layouts, and technical instructions.
• Strong knowledge of explosives handling, misfire procedures, and underground safety.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
