Job summary

cquail is seeking a Technical Application Specialist for underground mining operations in Canada. The role focuses on introducing, testing and adopting advanced mining technologies on site, bridging mine-site personnel with engineering and operations to ensure safe, successful implementations.

The ideal candidate has extensive underground blasting experience, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to train personnel during trials and commissioning activities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Underground Common Core certification required.
• Blast Rock certification/training required.
• Utility Vehicle certification required.
• Valid driver’s licence required.
• Minimum 5 years’ mining experience with at least 3 years in long-hole loading or development mining.
• Strong underground mining and blasting exposure.
• Ability to work independently on customer sites.
• Experience with technical product trials, commissioning or new mining technology deployments is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical implementation projects at underground customer sites.
• Support commissioning, testing, trials and first-use implementation of explosive technologies.
• Act as the on-site technical specialist during technology introductions.
• Develop and optimise application methodologies and testing parameters.
• Train mine personnel in correct product application and operational procedures.
• Provide technical and operational support during product trials.
• Conduct underground charging and production blasting activities where required.
• Prepare development rounds and long-hole stopes for charging.
• Operate electronic blasting systems and associated underground equipment.
• Read and interpret mine plans, blast plans and underground layouts.
• Conduct equipment inspections and identify operational defects.
• Maintain strong working relationships with mine-site customers.
• Mentor and support less experienced operational personnel.
• Ensure compliance with explosives legislation, underground mining regulations and site safety requirements.

Our client, an international mining technology and explosives organisation, is looking for an experienced Technical Application Specialist to support the introduction, testing and adoption of specialised mining technologies across underground mining operations. This is a strongly site-based technical role suited to someone who understands underground production, charging and blasting but can also work directly with customers during technology trials, commissioning and operational implementation. The position will act as a link between mine-site personnel, technical teams, engineering and operations to ensure new technologies are introduced safely and successfully.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant Underground Common Core certification.
• Blast Rock certification/training.
• Utility Vehicle certification.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Minimum 5 years' mining experience.
• At least 3 years’ experience as a long-hole loader and/or development miner.
• Strong underground mining and blasting exposure.
• Good understanding of mining explosives and associated technical services.
• Ability to work independently on customer sites.
• Advantageous Heavy machinery operating experience.
• Train-the-Trainer experience.
• Previous exposure to technical product trials, commissioning or new mining technology implementation.
