Position: Experience Requirements Advisor

Reports To: Associate Director, Employer Relations and Talent Development

Contract Type: Indefinite, Full Time

The Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC) is seeking a detail oriented, collaborative and results-driven individual for the position of Experience Requirement Advisor. We are committed to fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and innovative workplace, and we are proud and honoured to have been recognized as one of BC’s Top Employers for a seventh consecutive year in 2026.

Job Summary

The Experience Requirements Advisor serves as the primary connection between CPABC's Employer Relations & Talent Development, Student Recruitment, and Practical Experience teams, helping prospective CPA learners and employers understand how workplace opportunities align with CPA practical experience requirements. The role assesses job opportunities and career pathways, supports the development of experience work plan templates, provides guidance on CPA competency alignment, and collaborates with employers to create meaningful pathways toward CPA certification.

Working in partnership with the Employer Relations team, the Advisor participates in employer consultations where organizations have identified accounting roles that may be suitable for CPA learners, providing guidance on how those roles can be structured or enhanced to support the development of required competencies and alignment with CPA practical experience requirements.

Acting as a trusted liaison between employers, prospective learners, and internal regulatory teams, the Advisor translates evolving workforce, employer, and learner needs into informed discussions that balance talent development objectives with CPA certification standards. Through consultation, relationship building, and knowledge translation, the Advisor helps connect labour market realities with CPA requirements while supporting learner success and employer talent needs.

Key Responsibilities:
Practical Experience Requirements Advising
  • Provide advice and support to prospective learners seeking to understand how current or prospective roles align with new CPA work experience requirements.
  • Review job descriptions, role responsibilities, and career progression to assess alignment with experience work plans and competencies required to meet CPA certification requirements.
  • Guide prospective learners in identifying opportunities and gaps relative to CPA competency development and experience requirements.
  • Partner with Employer Relation Officers to deliver information sessions, presentations, and one‑on‑one consultations regarding CPA experience opportunities and pathways to certification.
Partner Engagement and Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective learners, employers, and internal partners to support awareness and understanding of CPA practical experience pathways.
  • Participate in employer consultations as the practical experience subject matter expert, advising on how accounting positions can be enhanced or aligned to support CPA competency development, experience requirements, and successful progression toward certification.
  • Liaise with the Experience team to keep abreast of experience policies and experience workplan templates, as well as to collaborate on creation of templates for employers to reference.
  • Collaborate with Employer Relations, Experience, and other teams to identify opportunities to enhance learner and employer engagement.
  • Promote awareness of CPA experience requirements and opportunities through presentations, webinars, events, and partner meetings.
  • Gather feedback from learners and employers to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for continuous improvement.
Program Support and Continuous Improvement
  • Monitor changes to CPA certification requirements, experience standards, and competency frameworks.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of resources, templates, guides, and support materials for prospective learners and employers.
  • Identify gaps in available experience workplan templates and collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop solutions that address the gaps.
  • Track and report on prospective learner inquiries, employer engagement activities, experience workplan development initiatives, and partner outcomes.

And other duties and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time.

Key Requirements:

  • Five (5) plus years of relevant experience in business development, career development, talent development, post-secondary student recruitment, or a similar role;

  • Ability to assess organizational roles and responsibilities, and provide recommendations that align business needs with professional competency and certification requirements;
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a trusted liaison across diverse business and regulatory groups, building consensus, reconciling competing priorities, and effectively conveying evolving employer and student needs while upholding CPA designation standards and requirements;
