Job summary

Alberta Health Services’ Stollery Children’s Hospital is seeking an Exercise Specialist to lead pediatric preventive care initiatives within the Ambulatory Cardiology team. You will deliver exercise assessment, training, rehabilitation, and education, developing medically supervised programs for children with cardiac conditions, in a patient- and family-centered setting.

You will work with an interdisciplinary team, manage program delivery and evaluation, and support quality improvement

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Exercise Physiology, or equivalent.
• Active membership with the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology, and Clinical Exercise Physiologist and/or ACSM, Exercise Specialist.
• Minimum two years’ experience in a healthcare setting; one year in Cardiac Rehabilitation.
• ACSM/CSEP certification within one year of hire.
• Knowledge of pediatric learning theory and experience in pediatric exercise assessment, program development and implementation.
• Strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and analytical skills; ability to work independently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a patient- and family-centered environment with an interdisciplinary team.
• Experience leading or supporting quality improvement in a fast-paced env.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Calendar, MS Teams).
• BCLS-HCP certification.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move equipment.

The Stollery Children’s Hospital Preventive Cardiology Program is looking for a dynamic, highly skilled, detail and quality-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Reporting to the Unit Manager of the Stollery Pediatric Cardiology Ambulatory Services, the incumbent leads pediatric preventive care initiatives, and the development and implementation of a medically supervised Exercise Medicine Program for children with cardiac conditions. Decisions are made in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Description:

As an Exercise Specialist, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, delivering exercise assessment, training, rehabilitation, risk factor identification, exercise programs and self-management services for individuals and/or groups of patients within a designated portfolio. You will facilitate improvements using a patient-and family-centred model of practice where you will deliver ongoing patient education (in the form of individual, small or large classroom settings) to patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals as part of the rehabilitation plan. You will be involved with program delivery and client care, program planning, program promotion, and program evaluation.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Exercise Physiology, or equivalent exercise science degree.Active membership with the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology, and Clinical Exercise Physiologist and/or American College of Sport Medicine, Exercise Specialist.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum two years’ experience in a healthcare setting required, including one year in Cardiac Rehabilitation. ACSM Exercise Specialist and/or CSEP certification required within one year of hire. Knowledge of pediatric learning theory and experience in pediatric exercise assessment, program development, and implementation required. Strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and analytical skills required, with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are essential. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a patient- and family-centered environment and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Experience leading or supporting quality improvement initiatives in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Calendar, and MS Teams. Reliable and dependable, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities effectively. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification required. Must be physically capable of performing CPR and meeting the demands of the role, including moving and transferring patients and equipment, walking moderate distances, and prolonged sitting or standing. Ability to safely perform floor-to-waist and overhead lifting of up to 50 lbs. is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced skills in ECG interpretation preferred. Experience teaching pediatric patients and groups. Connect Care training is a definite asset. Familiarity with simulation-based learning and other advanced educational technologies.
