Job summary

The University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton is seeking a Physiotherapist I to join the Neuro program within Rehabilitation and Allied Health. You will provide interventions from ICU to discharge, focusing on early rehab and neurology/neurosurgical care.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team, mentor students, and contribute to quality improvement while collaborating with patients and families for optimal outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program.
• Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.
• Basic Life Support – Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
• Acute care experience within the past 3 years is an asset.
• Clinical experience in treatment and management of patients with neurological conditions preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence.
• Support patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions from intensive care to discharge with early rehab.
• Collaborate with interprofessional teams, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance rehabilitation services.
• Participate in peer mentoring and supervise students as needed.

We are seeking a dedicated physiotherapist to join our Rehabilitation and Allied Health Program within the Neurosciences portfolio. In this role, you will support patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions from the intensive care to discharge, with a focus on optimizing outcomes through early rehab. The UAH is a Comprehensive Stroke Centre and home to the newly built Neuro Rehab Innovation Center, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to research and rehabilitation. You will have the opportunity to use rehab technology such as the Zero-G and the RT300 in this new gym. Our site fosters continuous learning through monthly professional practice events and builds expertise through collaboration and mentorship from the vast collective experiences of other professionals on site. Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.
