Forestry and Parks supports the well-being of Albertans through sustainable development and management of Alberta’s lands, forests and parks. A critical part of the mandate is to oversee all wildfire management and management of Provincial forests. This includes wildfire response and mitigation and prevention, forest management planning, forest health, trade, industry regulation and revenue collection.

The Assistant Deputy Minister of Forestry is seeking to fill an Executive Director position.

The Executive Director of Forestry Central Services will coach, manage, and mentor a management team to achieve business plan goals and explore efficiencies in service and program area delivery. The Executive Director will take the lead role influencing cultural change and championing innovation, encouraging and identifying opportunities for efficiency and continuous improvement.

This position is a key member of the Division Executive Leadership Team, and will provide strategic advice in relations to programs, initiatives, emerging trends, and issues relating to all matters related to the Provincial forestry program and to our valuable staff.

The Executive Directors works closely with the ADM, the other Executive Directors in the Forestry Division, other senior representatives of the ministry, other ministries and governments, indigenous and municipal leaders, service providers and industry stakeholders.

Executive Director, Forestry Central Services (Permanent)

The Executive Director, Forestry Central Services leads a diverse team of approximately 100 government professionals to oversee several programs including forestry procurement, financial reporting, wildfire cost recovery, human resources administration, grants administration; communications related to wildfire and forest management, emergency public and stakeholder communications; and warehousing. You will also have oversight in the administration of a base budget and contingency budget, capital funds as well as several intergovernmental cost sharing initiatives. Depending on the wildfire season, the budget can be several hundred million dollars.

The pace can be fast, no shortage of challenges, priorities can shift rapidly and there can be some long hours, however the Forestry Division is a supportive close-knit team that is dedicated and passionate about the Provincial forests. Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Executive Director position will have extensive senior management experience leading staff, related technical knowledge, and highly skilled at forming and maintaining positive relationships with partners and clients. You bring business acumen, ability to solve highly complex interdisciplinary problems and consistent in achieving outcomes. You have a proven record of accomplishment in financial and budget management. Superior leadership, communication, and negotiation skills and a highly developed capacity to establish strong networks and linkages will be critical to your success.

Formal accreditation in financial management is a definite asset.

$5,896.65 - $7,749.28 bi-weekly ($153,902 - $202,256 yearly)

Notes

The positions are traditionally located in Edmonton. Travel within the province will be required as part of your responsibilities.
