Summary

The Executive Director of the Industry Education Council (IEC) of Hamilton is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial leadership of the organization. This role is accountable for advancing the mission of the IEC to build collaborative partnerships with industry, business, education and community allies to foster experiential learning. It involves leading the IEC in its mission to connect industry, business, and education to foster experiential learning and career development opportunities for students and the community. This role champions diversity, equity and inclusion by fostering an inclusive organizational culture and ensuring that all initiatives reflect and support the diverse communities that we serve. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and organizational objectives in alignment with its Strategic Plan, By-laws, and procedures.

Job Duties

  • Lead a process and develop a framework to support the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive business plan to ensure the organization's sustainability and long-term viability. Establish efficient business processes to drive operational excellence, financial stability, and continuous improvement, ensuring the organization remains a going concern.
  • Provide leadership in developing programming, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board
  • Holds key responsibility for securing funding initiatives including but not limited to :

funding proposals in response to priorities identified by levels of government and industry sectors

  • Advocate for community collective impact and the pivotal role the IEC contributes to that process, publicizing the activities of the organization, its programs and goals
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key partners and stakeholders;including development of an expanded community of partners and stakeholders.
  • Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public
  • Develop an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organization
  • Identify and evaluate the risks to the organization's people (clients, staff, management, volunteers), property, finances, goodwill, and image and implement measures to control risks
  • Ensure the board is kept fully informed in a timely manner on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it
  • Establish positive, constructive and sustainablerelationships and collaborative allianceswith community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization
  • Work with the staff and the board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines and to internal and external financial reporting requirements
  • Champion technology and innovative practices within the organization to enhance organizational efficiency, program delivery and stakeholder engagement
  • Identify and evaluate the risks to the organization's people (clients, staff, management, volunteers), property, finances, goodwill, and image and implement measures to control risks
  • Develop and implement performance and evaluation analytics and dashboards for the Board to track achievement of milestones and deliverables against strategic priorities, and recommend corrective action if necessary.
  • Manage financial resources in accordance with standard financial practices, and present an annual budget plan to the Board.
  • Oversee the funds of the organization according to the approved budget, monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization and provide interim financial updates at Board meetings and Committee meetings
  • Monitor legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to IEC operations
  • Maintains official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, provincialand local regulations
  • Provide staff supervision and determine staff assignments in an effective manner to support operations, including specially funded initiatives. Determine staffing requirements (volunteer and paid staff) for organizational management and program delivery
  • Implement a performance management process for all staff which includes monitoring the performance of staff on an on-going basis and conducting an annual performance review
  • Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board
  • Other duties as required

Requirements

  • University degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance; an MBA, CPA or CMA designation is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience within a not-for-profit organization in leadership positions
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising and grant management
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and financial reporting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations
  • Knowledge of the Hamilton community and its educational and industry landscape is an asset.
  • Intermediate experi ence with MS Office Suite.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
  • Overtime as required.
