Reports to: Executive Director

Summary:

Develop and manage the Canadian Pork Council’s nutrition and health strategy: Responsible to build the science-based evidence to develop accurate and credible proof points supporting the pork industry’s efforts to promote and protect pork’s place as a nutritious and valuable part of the diet. Reach health professionals and stakeholders to disseminate this science-based evidence through targeted outreach strategies and strategic partnerships.

Position Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Stay current on newest human health studies, trends, and policy issues relevant to pork.
  • Participate in relevant nutrition and health policy consultations.
  • Work with executive director, as required, for meetings with elected and senior government officials

Technical Affairs

  • Identify short-term and long-range threats and opportunities related to pork’s nutritional reputation.
  • Provide technical guidance on nutrition issues to the Canadian Pork Council, the Canadian Meat Council, and provincial pork offices.
  • Monitored scientific, peer-reviewed research articles that impact pork’s nutritional reputation.
  • Act as a Canadian pork industry spokesperson on human health and nutrition issues and/or prepare spokespersons with key messages.
  • Maintain/develop relationships with key influencers in the health professional community.
  • Network with national and international industry organizations and NGOs.

Administration

Plan and execute the Canadian Pork Council’s health professional nutrition strategy.

Manage the health professional program budget.

Employment Requirements:

  • Member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a related business or industry role
  • Excellent project management, budgeting and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently

Notes:

  • Part-time retainer (approximately 130 days/year).
  • Compensation of $80,000 to $90,000 per annum (to be negotiated).
  • Ability to work from home office.
  • Domestic and some international travel required.
