Job summary

Fort McKay Group of Companies LP is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator - Excavator Operator for a safety-sensitive role at a project site north of Fort McMurray, AB. You will operate excavators on open pit mining or civil construction sites, following safety protocols and pre/post checks.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a valid Class 5 driver's license, a 3-year driving abstract, and 2–4 years of heavy equipment experience.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience operating heavy equipment in mining or civil construction.
• CSTS and OSSA/BSO/CSO certification required.
• Excavator operation (over/under 180 tons) required.

Responsibilities

• Operate an excavator to excavate, move, and load earth, gravel, rock or other materials in mining or civil construction work.
• Perform pre-operational and post-operational checks; maintain cleanliness and basic lubrication of equipment.
• Accept instructions and adapt work plans to changing conditions and procedures.
• Participate in toolbox meetings and suggest safety improvements.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Job description

Summary:

Under the direction of the Team Lead, the Heavy Equipment Operator - Excavator Operatoris responsible for experienced operation of an Excavator in an open pit mine worksite, or on a Civil Construction worksite. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.

Key Focuses:

• Operate an excavator to excavate, move, and load earth, gravel, rock, or other materials during mining related activities in a safe and efficient manner.
• Conduct pre-operational and post-operational checks on equipment, keep equipment clean, and perform basic maintenance or lubrication as required.
• Accept instructions as directed, and adjust work/strategy according to changing conditions, policies and procedures as needed.
• Participate in toolbox meetings, provide suggestions for improvement and safety.
• Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required.
• Retention of a valid class five (5) driver’s license is required
• 3 year Drivers Abstract is required
• At least 2-4 years of experience operating Heavy Equipment in Mining and/or Civil Construction is required.
• CSTS and OSSA or BSO or CSO is required
• Excavator operation (over/under 180 tons) is required.
• Ability to speak, write and read English is required

This is a temporary, project based position located north of Fort McMurray, AB, on the Syncrude Aurora site.

Work schedule is 14 days on, 7 days off; days and nights. 11.5 hour shift.

Overtime: Provided after 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week.
