Job summary

Blackline Civil Inc. in Alberta seeks an experienced Excavator Operator for underground civil construction projects. You will operate excavators, expose live utilities, and support installation of water, sewer, and storm systems.

You will read grade stakes and plans, work safely around utilities, and collaborate with pipe layers and foremen. This full-time role offers competitive pay, benefits, and growth opportunities within Alberta's expanding civil division.

Qualifications

• 2+ years excavator experience in underground or civil construction.
• Experience working around live utilities.
• Ground disturbance certification required.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators for trenching, backfilling, grading, and utility installation.
• Safely expose existing underground utilities.
• Work around live gas, electrical, water, and telecom lines.
• Follow grade stakes, trench depths, and site plans with precision.
• Coordinate with pipe layers, labourers, and supervisors.
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and routine equipment maintenance.
• Maintain trench safety in compliance with regulations (shoring, sloping, benching).
• Ensure all work is performed according to safety standards and project specs.

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled and safety-driven Excavator Operator with experience in underground construction. In this role, you’ll be responsible for precise excavation around live utilities and installation of underground infrastructure such as water, sewer, and storm systems.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications & Experience

• 2+ years of excavator experience in underground or civil construction
• Proven experience working around live utilities
• Strong understanding of trenching and excavation safety practices
• Ability to read grade stakes, plans, and utility drawings
• Valid driver’s license
• Ground disturbance certification
