Job summary

Blackline Civil Inc. is seeking an Excavator Operator to join our Alberta team, focusing on underground construction around live utilities and installation of water, sewer, and storm systems.

You will trench, backfill, expose utilities, and coordinate with pipe layers and supervisors, performing pre-trip inspections and maintenance, while upholding safety standards.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of excavator experience in underground or civil construction.
• Proven experience working around live utilities.
• Strong understanding of trenching and excavation safety practices.
• Ability to read grade stakes, plans, and utility drawings.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ground disturbance certification.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators for trenching, backfilling, grading, and utility installation.
• Safely expose existing underground utilities.
• Work around live gas, electrical, water, and telecom lines.
• Follow grade stakes, trench depths, and site plans with precision.
• Coordinate closely with pipe layers, labourers, and supervisors.
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and routine equipment maintenance.
• Maintain trench safety in compliance with regulations (shoring, sloping, benching).
• Ensure all work is performed according to safety standards and project specs.
