Job summary

The Durham District School Board is seeking an on-call custodian to support after-school and evening cleaning operations at DDSB facilities in Whitby. The role involves cleaning, minor repairs, and energy-efficient building management.

Hours are not guaranteed and will vary with school activity and holiday periods. Responsibilities include cleaning washrooms, classrooms and common areas, maintaining floors, and assisting with seasonal tasks.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma required.
• 6-12 months of training or equivalent experience preferred.
• Criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Clean assigned areas including washrooms, hallways, classrooms and common spaces.
• Monitor and adjust building heating, cooling, ventilation and energy conservation.
• Perform minor maintenance such as bulb replacement and basic repairs.
• Carry out seasonal tasks like cleaning, window care, landscaping and snow removal.
• Assist supervisors and staff and respond to after-hours needs and emergencies.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
