Job summary

Ministry of Education, Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch in Milton seeks Student Support Counsellors to support the Trillium Demonstration School lodging program. The role requires supervising severely learning-disabled students, planning individualized programs, and maintaining communication with families and professionals.

Positions are 5 English temporary roles, up to 10 months, with shifts across afternoons, evenings and overnights.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of learning disabilities and behaviour management techniques.
• Ability to facilitate social/recreational programs for students with severe learning disabilities.
• Knowledge of legislation and safety practices addressing student care.
• Excellent communication with students, parents, staff and professionals.
• Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, guidance and instruction in social and life skills for severely learning-disabled students in a student lodging setting.
• Plan and implement individualized and group programs to meet personal, emotional and developmental needs using a multidisciplinary approach.
• Supervise and model appropriate interpersonal relationships and social skills among students.
• Maintain communication with students, parents and professionals; prepare progress reports and participate in case conferences.
• Willingness to work afternoon, evening and overnight shifts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
