Job summary

Academy Fabricators Group is seeking an experienced Piping Estimator to lead bid development for industrial pipe fabrication and modular assembly. You will collaborate with estimating leads, project management, shop operations, and scheduling to produce accurate, competitive bids on time.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in industrial pipe fabrication estimating, strong MS Office skills, and a diploma or degree in piping/estimating engineering or construction management.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of estimating experience in industrial pipe fabrication, modular assembly, or heavy industrial construction.
• Advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Access, Word).
• Diploma or degree in Piping/Estimating Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Set up bid folders and review client RFQs, drawings, specs, and commercial terms to understand the full scope of work.
• Complete accurate piping takeoffs from ISOs, general arrangements, BOMs, and line lists.
• Build complete piping fabrication estimates covering labour, materials, consumables, equipment, freight, coatings, NDE, PWHT, hydrotesting, subcontractors, and indirect costs.
• Send RFQs to suppliers and subcontractors, check quotes against project specs, and plug accurate vendor pricing into the estimate.
• Flag scope gaps, risks, assumptions, and exclusions, and write clear Bid Letters and commercial clarifications for review and submission.
• Check in with project management, quality, and scheduling to confirm shop rates, capacity, and schedule dates, while comparing numbers against past projects.
• Prepare bid summaries, pricing tables, and final client submittals, join internal bid reviews, and answer client questions after submission.
• Hand over awarded jobs to the projects team, and help price change orders or review quantity changes when needed.
• Keep estimating templates, unit rate sheets, and lessons learned up to date while helping out the rest of the estimating team.

Job Purpose

We are looking for an experienced Piping Estimator who has strong technical knowledge and a practical, get it done attitude. You will handle the full bid process for industrial pipe fabrication, modular assembly, and related scopes of work. Working closely with the Estimating Lead and Estimating Manager, you will team up with project management, shop operations, quality, and scheduling to put together accurate, competitive bids on time.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Set up bid folders and review client RFQs, drawings, specs, and commercial terms to understand the full scope of work.
• Complete accurate piping takeoffs from ISOs, general arrangements, BOMs, and line lists. This includes material takeoffs, weld counts, diameter inch totals, spool counts, hydrotest counts, subcontractor scope breakdowns, and structural takeoffs when needed.
• Build complete piping fabrication estimates covering labour, materials, consumables, equipment, freight, coatings, NDE, PWHT, hydrotesting, subcontractors, and indirect costs using diameter inch, labour hour, unit rate, and lump sum methods.
• Send RFQs to suppliers and subcontractors, check quotes against project specs, and plug accurate vendor pricing into the estimate.
• Flag scope gaps, risks, assumptions, and exclusions, and write clear Bid Letters and commercial clarifications for review and submission.
• Check in with project management, quality, and scheduling to confirm shop rates, capacity, and schedule dates, while comparing numbers against past projects.
