Job summary

Axiom Builders is seeking an estimator to join its preconstruction team in Vancouver. You will assemble estimates for labour, materials, and subcontractors, collaborating with a value-driven preconstruction team to enhance budgeting and planning across residential multi-family projects.

Ideal candidates bring 1-2 years of experience on complex projects, strong trade knowledge, and solid Excel and takeoff skills.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience on complex projects from start to finish.
• Knowledge of trade practices and building materials.
• Experience with on-screen takeoff tools and Excel.
• Certificate, diploma, or degree in Building Technology, Construction Management, or PQS.
• High attention to detail for accuracy and consistency.
• Ability to communicate confidently with all levels of staff and owners.

Responsibilities

• Assemble estimating input including labour, material, equipment and trade pricing with the Director, Estimating.
• Build relationships with trades and suppliers for cost efficiencies and partnerships.
• Collaborate with estimating, virtual construction, BIM, and project management teams.
• Prepare and analyze labour needs and breakdowns for budgets and planning.
• Review designs to identify cost-saving opportunities and improvements.
• Track estimated vs actual costs over project life.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble all estimating input including labour, material, equipment and trade pricing in partnership with the Director, Estimating;
• Build strong relationships and long-term partnership opportunities with our trades and suppliers;
• Collaborate with peers in estimating, virtual construction, BIM, and project management to form a value-add preconstruction team;
• Prepare and analyze labour needs and breakdowns to assist with budgets and planning;
• Review designs to identify areas of improvement and opportunity for cost efficiencies;
• Complete project scope of work reviews to ensure completeness of estimates, and all technical specifications, subcontractor scopes, and general condition items have been quantified and costed;
• Track estimated versus actual costs over the life of the project.

Skills & Experience

• At least one to two (1-2) solid years of experience working on complex projects from beginning to end, ideally in the residential multi-family sector;
• Knowledge of trade practices, market conditions, and building materials;
• Experience and comfortable working with on-screen takeoff tools and Excel;
• Certificate, diploma, or degree in Building Technology, Construction Management, Construction Technology, and/or PQS;
• High level of attention to detail to drive accuracy and consistency throughout your work;
• Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with all levels of employees and owners, architects, and subtrades.

The base salary (hourly wage) range for this role is $85,000 to $110,000, adjusted for experience , plus a competitive bonus program.
