Job summary

Drake International Inc. in Calgary, AB, is seeking an Estimator for Commercial and Institutional Projects to support preconstruction budgeting and bid strategies on a range of projects.

The role partners with project teams to develop accurate budgets and identify opportunities for cost savings. The position offers a path within a well-established contractor market in Alberta, with opportunities for professional development and career growth.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of estimating experience with a General Contractor in commercial, institutional, healthcare, recreation, or mixed-use construction.
• Experience preparing complete building estimates and managing multiple tenders in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, labour productivity, material pricing, subcontractor procurement, and cost planning.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and coordinate detailed cost estimates for commercial and institutional construction projects from conceptual design through tender submission.
• Review drawings, specifications, and project documentation to identify risks, opportunities, and cost-saving solutions.
• Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing to ensure competitive and accurate project budgets.
• Support collaborative preconstruction efforts by working closely with project managers, operations teams, consultants, and clients.
• Assist with value engineering, constructability reviews, procurement planning, and bid strategy development to improve project outcomes.
