Job summary

JATEC is seeking a Civil Utility Estimator in Edmonton to prepare accurate estimates for labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors across telecommunications, underground utilities, electrical, and civil construction projects.

Reporting to the Director of Estimating, you will review drawings, tender documents, and specifications to determine project requirements and drive competitive bids while identifying cost-saving opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of progressive construction estimating or project experience.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and project delivery processes.
  • Experience in telecommunications, shallow utilities, electrical, or civil construction.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and financial skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience using ERP systems and estimating software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and initiative to learn and grow.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.

  • Soliciting, reviewing, and evaluating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Identifying opportunities for cost savings, efficiencies, and value engineering.
  • Assisting with the development of project schedules and execution plans during the bidding process.
  • Conducting site visits and attending pre-bid meetings as required.
  • Preparing pricing for change orders and additional work requests.
  • Collaborating with Operations, Project Management, and Field Teams to support successful project execution.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within estimating processes.
  • Performing other duties as required.

What You'll Do

As an Estimator, you will play a key role in the pursuit and successful delivery of infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Director of Estimating, you will prepare accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates that support JATEC's continued growth across telecommunications, underground utilities, electrical, and civil construction projects.

What You Bring
Required Qualifications
