Job summary

JATEC in Edmonton, AB is seeking a Shallow Utility Installer (Construction Labourer) to join our underground utility team. You’ll help install fibre optic and utility infrastructure, work with Foremen, and contribute to safe, efficient project progress in all weather.

Starting wage is CAD 23.00 per hour, with pay depending on experience. This year-round, full-time role offers local work, overtime opportunities, and a strong team culture focused on safety and quality construction in the Edmonton

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence is required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • 7 months to 1 year of construction industry experience.
  • Able to stand, kneel, crouch, bend and walk during shifts.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong work ethic with a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual labour to support underground utility installations.
  • Load/unload and move construction materials at the work site.
  • Dig, backfill, and clean trenches.
  • Assist with installation of underground utilities and fibre optic infrastructure.
  • Support equipment operators and learn to operate construction equipment.
  • Maintain clean, organized and safe worksites.
  • Complete general labour tasks to support construction operations.

What You’ll Do

As an Underground Utility Installer (Labourer), you will support the installation of underground utility and electrical infrastructure throughout the Edmonton area. Working alongside experienced Foremen and Lead Hands, you’ll play an important role in helping projects progress safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Performing manual labour to support underground utility installations
  • Loading, unloading, and moving construction materials to and from work areas
  • Digging, backfilling, and cleaning trenches
  • Assisting with the installation of underground utilities and fibre optic infrastructure
  • Supporting equipment operators and learning to operate construction equipment
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and safe worksites
  • Performing ongoing maintenance of work areas, trenches, and equipment
  • Completing general labour activities required to support construction operations
