Job summary

Aecon Group Inc. seeks a Senior Estimator (Transmission) to accurately estimate labour, equipment and materials for transmission projects across Canada.

You will lead tender preparation and pricing with stakeholders, ensuring compliant, competitive bids. Reporting to the Estimating Manager, you bring 10+ years in transmission hydro infrastructure, a civil/construction/engineering background, and strong Excel/estimating software skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years experience Estimating / Operational experience in Transmission Hydro Infrastructure.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
• Experience deriving prices from suppliers / subcontractors and preparing tender submissions.
• Strong Excel, Word, Project and estimating software skills.

Responsibilities

• Shared accountability for the overall financial performance of projects awarded.
• Analyzes documents, specifications, proposals and addendums for pricing.
• Performs estimate-related communications with clients.
• Reviews project site prior to price preparation.
• Collaborates with Operations, PMO and Owners staff as appropriate.
• Obtains input from Operations staff as appropriate.
• Performs quantity take-off from drawings where applicable.
• Obtains pricing from Suppliers / Subcontractors and incorporates into estimate.
• Formulates all costs for tender submission – labour, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts.
• Accountable for accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
• Oversees distribution of documentation upon award of project.
• Manages Scope Change pricing as required.
• Maintains Estimating data systems; keeps up to date.
• Assists in training of new Estimating staff.
• Drives Estimating process / procedure compliance and consistency.
• Conducts Bid Handover meetings as required.
• Assists with Prequalification, RFQ’s and RFI submissions as required.
• Incorporates / complies with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
• Drives relationships with Clients, Consultants, and key Subcontractors.
• Protects proprietary information.
• Maintains Estimating data systems, to ensure they are kept up to date.
• Assists in training of new Estimating staff.

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Senior Estimator (Transmission) will be responsible for accurately estimating the cost of labour, equipment and materials for supply and installation, as well as accountability for the direction, preparation and documentation of work completion estimates for Transmission construction projects.

We're open to someone based in any of our offices across Canada, including Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Abbottsford.

What You'll Do Here

• Provide technical support to field staff as appropriate.
• Drives Estimating process / procedure compliance and consistency.
• Conducts Bid Handover meetings as required.
• Assists with Prequalification, RFQ’s and RFI submissions as required.
• Incorporates / complies with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
• Drives positive relationships with Clients, Consultants, and key Subcontractors.
• Protects all forms of proprietary information.
• Maintains Estimating data systems, to ensure they are kept up to date.
• Assists in the training of new Estimating staff as appropriate.

What You Bring To The Team

• Diploma / Degree –Civil / Construction / Electrical / Business
• Minimum 10 years experience Estimating / Operational experience in Transmission Hydro Infrastructure
• Understanding of affiliated electrical systems an asset.
• Construction site experience considered an asset
• Skills allow for working independently with little supervision
• Prior operational experience an asset.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
• Thorough knowledge of contract language / Terms and Conditions / Bonding etc.
• Thorough knowledge of associated Trades labour agreements / working rules
• Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and accounting / reporting.
• Self motivated with excellent organizational skills.
• Strong computer skills – MS Excel / Word / Project and estimating software
• Strong communication skills – oral and written.
• Ability to work accurately, effectively under pressure.
• Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work with others as a team.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
• Professional designation an asset (P.Eng., C.E.T., CTech)
