Landscape Ontario is seeking an Equipment & Training Facility Lead to oversee the GROW program's tools, equipment, vehicles, PPE and storage in Milton, Ontario. You will deliver hands-on instruction, maintain inventories and ensure safety and readiness for training cohorts.

The role is part-time and fixed-term for the 2026–27 fiscal year, with hours ranging 0–25 per week outside teaching duties, and compensation of $70 CAD per hour.

About You

You are a practical, safety-focused landscape and horticulture professional who enjoys teaching hands‑on skills and taking ownership of tools, machinery and training spaces. You know how to keep equipment organized, ready and safe, and you can recognize when maintenance, repair or replacement is required.

You are dependable, organized and comfortable working independently while coordinating with instructors, program staff and Landscape Ontario’s grounds team. You build positive relationships with trainees and create a respectful learning environment where people can develop confidence using industry equipment.

What You’ll Be Doing

As the Equipment & Training Facility Lead you will deliver hands‑on instruction during GROW training cohorts and take day‑to‑day ownership of the program’s tools, equipment, vehicles, trailers, consumables, PPE and storage areas. You will make sure training resources are inventoried, clean, maintained, inspected and ready for safe use. This is a small additional assignment held alongside a separate Part‑Time Technical Training Instructor role; instructional duties and compensation remain under the instructor position.

You will monitor equipment condition and operating needs, coordinate repairs and maintenance, and provide clear recommendations to the GROW Program Lead when equipment or supplies need to be repaired, replenished or replaced. Your work will help trainees learn safely and keep technical training running smoothly.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Equipment Ownership, Inventory and Readiness:
• Maintain accurate inventories of tools, machinery, vehicles, trailers, PPE, training materials and related assets.
• Track equipment location, condition, service history, inspections and availability for each cohort.
• Prepare, clean and organize equipment before and after training and confirm it is ready for safe use.
• Maintain orderly, secure storage and coordinate access, storage and parking needs with Landscape Ontario’s grounds and facilities staff.
• Support equipment movement between training locations, including loading, securing and transporting items where authorized.
• Inspection, Maintenance and Repair:
• Complete routine equipment checks and documented safety inspections in accordance with manufacturer guidance and applicable requirements.
• Carry out basic preventative maintenance and minor repairs within the role’s qualifications and arrange qualified service when needed.
• Immediately remove unsafe or damaged equipment from use, clearly identify it and report the issue.
• Monitor maintenance schedules, warranties and repair needs and follow up until equipment is safely returned to service.
• Recommend repair, replacement or disposal when equipment is unsafe, unreliable, no longer cost‑effective or does not meet training needs.
• Supplies, Operating Use and Cost Awareness:
• Monitor fuel, oil, fluids, parts, PPE and other operational consumables used in training.
• Maintain appropriate stock levels and request approved purchases or replenishment before shortages affect delivery.
• Track significant equipment use, damage, repair and operating costs and provide updates to the GROW Program Lead.
• Identify unusual consumption, recurring repairs or preventable damage and recommend practical solutions.
• Training Environment and Team Coordination:
• Keep shops, classrooms, outdoor training areas, vehicles and trailers clean, organized and ready for use.
• Coordinate with the Technical Training Coordinator, instructors and program staff on cohort schedules, equipment needs and delivery issues.
• Work cooperatively with Landscape Ontario’s grounds and facilities teams on storage, parking, site access and shared‑space requirements.
• Build respectful relationships with trainees and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Follow incident‑reporting procedures and elevate safety, equipment or operational concerns promptly.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in landscape horticulture, grounds operations, construction, equipment operation is a must.
• Strong working knowledge of landscape and horticulture tools, machinery, small engines and safe operating practices.
• Experience teaching, demonstrating or coaching practical skills to adults is preferred.
• Hands‑on experience with equipment inspection, preventative maintenance and minor repair.
• Ability to organize inventory, service records, inspection records and supply tracking accurately.
• Valid Ontario driver’s licence and a clean driving record; experience driving work vehicles and towing trailers is required.
• Equipment licences or certifications relevant to the training being delivered, such as skid steer, counterbalance forklift or AR licence, are assets.
• Strong communication, teamwork, organization and problem‑solving skills.
• Comfort using Google Workspace and digital forms, trackers or inventory systems, or willingness to learn.
• Ability to work safely in indoor and outdoor environments and perform the physical duties required to handle equipment and training materials.

About this position

• Part‑time, fixed‑term position supporting the 2026–27 fiscal year through June 29, 2027.
• Hours will vary based on cohort schedules, equipment preparation, maintenance and operational needs (0‑25 hrs/hrs per week outside of teaching hours).
• Compensation: $70/hour.
• Reports to the GROW Program Lead and works closely with the Technical Training Coordinator, instructors and Landscape Ontario’s grounds and facilities teams.
• Primarily based at Landscape Ontario’s office and training facility in Milton, Ontario, with travel to other cohort or training locations as required.
• Some early morning, evening or weekend work may be required based on training schedules.
