Job summary

The City of Burlington is seeking an Equipment Operator to maintain and operate park maintenance vehicles and equipment. You will mow grass, pick litter, empty receptacles, inspect and clean washrooms, and assist with winter operations while adhering to safety guidelines.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid DZ license with a clean driving record; passing a written/oral/practical exam may be required. This in-person role is based at 3330 Harvester Road.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain city vehicles, equipment and attachments in a safe, efficient manner.

  • Open/close, clean and disinfect public washrooms as required.
  • Conduct daily checks and minor repairs; schedule major repairs as needed.
  • Assist in leaf and winter control operations and complete required paperwork.

Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.Position OverviewReporting to the Supervisor of Parks, the Equipment Operator position is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance and service of motorized vehicles and equipment relating to a variety of park maintenance activities. This Equipment Operator position will perform tasks related to waste collection, mowing and technical services in parks.ResponsibilitiesThe Equipment Operator will perform a variety of activities supporting parks maintenance, such as:Maintaining vehicles, equipment, and attachments in a safe and efficient manner, and in accordance with established standard operating and safe job procedures.Operating city vehicles and equipment such as pickup trucks, garbage trucks, mowers, tractors, trailers, and other related small and large equipment, including attachments, as required.Mowing grass in parks, ensuring service levels are being met while operating equipment safely.Picking litter and emptying garbage receptacles from parks, playgrounds, parking lots, and roadsides etc.Opening, closing, inspecting, cleaning, and disinfecting public washroom facilitiesOperating handheld equipment, power tools and hand tools related to grass cutting, sports field maintenance and general park maintenance activities.Performing daily circle checks on equipment, making any necessary minor repairs in the prescribed manner, and scheduling any major repairs through the Supervisor.Participating in loose leaf and winter control operations.Completing assigned work and administrative tasks in an accurate and timely manner; including daily activity sheets, training documentation and other required paperwork.Comply with requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Highway Traffic Act, Federal, Provincial and City regulations, policies and procedures.Other duties as assigned.RequirementsYou have a high school diploma, or equivalent, and demonstrated experience in park maintenance.
