Job summary

Forbes Bros. Group of Companies is seeking an Equipment Operator to safely operate heavy equipment on project sites in Canada. The role requires following site plans, performing daily checks, assisting in maintenance, and coordinating with the construction team.

You will work a project-based rotation of 6 days on / 1 day off, travel to project sites as required, and maintain equipment documentation daily. Base pay and allowances will be established per project needs.

Qualifications

  • Operators certificate from a licensed service provider.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience on heavy equipment: excavators, crawler tractors, loaders
  • Class 3 (DZ) license, class 1 (AZ) license with air brakes considered asset

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and quality at every task.
  • Operate all heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform daily pre/post safety and maintenance checks.
  • Store heavy equipment safely.
  • Follow site plans and coordinate with the construction team.
  • Review equipment operating manuals.
  • Clean equipment as scheduled.
  • Inform Foreman of maintenance needs.
  • Maintain equipment documentation daily.

Position Summary

Taking direction from the foreman or lead hand, this position is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of equipment and daily maintenance checks. The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.


Core Responsibilities

Field Safety Leadership & Compliance



  • Ensuring safety and quality is at the forefront of every task

  • Operate all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures

  • Perform daily pre/post safety and maintenance checks

  • Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored


Equipment Operation to Include


  • Backhoe

  • Skid Steer

  • Mini excavator

  • Radial Boom Derrick (Digger truck)

  • Excavators

  • And other pieces of equipment.


Daily Responsibilities


  • Able to follow site plans

  • Work closely with construction team to understand tasks and provide feedback

  • Understand and have knowledge with equipment operating manuals

  • Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required

  • Advise the fleet Foreman of any requirements for maintenance or repairs

  • Participate in routine maintenance, cleaning, greasing etc.

  • Ensuring documentation for equipment is up to date as per daily check


Essential Requirements

Education & Experience



  • Operators certificate from a licensed service provider

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience on heavy equipment: excavators, crawler tractors, loaders

  • Class 3 (DZ) license, class 1 (AZ) license with air brakes considered asset


Skills & Abilities


  • Experience with all or most of the equipment noted above is considered an asset


Additional Details

This Position Requires Candidates To


  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract

  • Work a project-based rotation schedule, initially anticipated to be 6 days on / 1 day off

  • Eligible for $200/day LOA where applicable while working away from home

  • Be willing to travel and relocate to project sites as required


The range shown is the expected base pay range for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on role requirements, experience, qualifications, work location, applicable project/site requirements, internal equity, and any applicable collective agreement or union requirements.This range does not include overtime, premiums, per diem / LOA, bonuses, benefits, or other forms of compensation unless specifically stated in the job posting.


Base Pay Range: $38 CAD - $49 CAD
