PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

CPKC is hiring full-time Equipment Operators to facilitate the safe and efficient loading of domestic and international containers at the Intermodal facility in Lachine, Quebec.

The starting position includes operation of various intermodal equipment (shunt trucks, etc.) and offers near-term progression to other positions within the facility, such as Utility Ground and Heavy Equipment Operator.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Operate various terminal equipment including shunt trucks, light-duty pickup trucks, fuel trucks, trailers, chassis, forklifts, sweeper trucks, etc.
• Handle containers/chassis within the terminal to support train loading operations.
• Perform general duties, including pre-tripping of perishable intermodal containers, building electric reefer container sets on railcars, plugging in reefers on ground, and monitoring performance.
• Inspect intermodal equipment for damages and report defects.
• Prepare railcars for loading containers of different sizes by placing pedestals and spacers.
• Assist in securing containers on railcars (walking on railcar platforms, locking/unlocking IBCs).
• Update systems upon work completion.
• Perform other duties as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Advanced reading and writing skills, with the ability to follow detailed instructions and training, including driving.
• Valid driver’s license.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Medical Requirements: Operating safely is fundamental to CPKC. All new hires for safety-sensitive positions must complete a pre-employment medical, including physical, vision, hearing, alcohol, and drug assessments. Pre-employment drug tests are also required. Candidates in the Trainee Program must pass a drug test during training before final qualification.
