Qualifications

  • Experience working in warehousing, maintenance or construction in a similar environment is essential.
  • Ability to work without supervision and independently solve problems.
  • Good verbal communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate inventory records for equipment, tools, materials, parts, consumables and supplies.
  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts, identify discrepancies and manage damaged or surplus items.
  • Label, tag, organize and maintain storage areas to keep items secure and accessible.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard and warehouse and ensure safe work practices.
  • Load, unload, move, and organize materials and equipment using appropriate equipment.
  • Stage materials and equipment for projects and assist mobilization/demobilization activities.
  • Coordinate with project teams regarding material requirements and deliveries.

WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK with operations in Canada, the Middle East, Poland & the Philippines. We have specialized plant and equipment that allows us to install custom dewatering systems in various environments including from within tunnels and shafts and from the surface.


Yard operations are an essential part of our business and are pivotal in enabling WJ Canada's ability to execute projects on time and on budget. The principal function of this role is to maintain accurate inventory records, organize the yard and warehouse, receive and issue equipment and materials, and assist with general yard and labour duties.

Reports to the Plant and Equipment Manager

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Maintain accurate inventory records for equipment, tools, materials, parts, consumables, and supplies, including receipts, issues, transfers, and returns.
  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials against purchase orders and delivery documentation, while monitoring stock levels and identifying replenishment needs.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts, investigate discrepancies, and identify damaged, missing, obsolete, or surplus items.
  • Label, tag, organize, and maintain designated storage areas to ensure equipment, materials, and supplies are secure, accessible, and easy to locate.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard and warehouse, including storage areas, racks, containers, laydown areas, and workspaces.
  • Load, unload, move, and organize materials, equipment, and supplies using appropriate equipment and safe work practices.
  • Stage materials and equipment for projects and assist with mobilization and demobilization activities.
  • Track company equipment, tools, attachments, pumps, tanks, hoses, fittings, and other operational assets, ensuring items returned from the field are accounted for, inspected, and properly stored.
  • Report damaged or defective equipment and assist with basic inspections and identifying items requiring maintenance or repair.
  • Prepare materials and equipment for shipment to project sites, ensure items are properly documented and safely loaded, and maintain shipping and receiving records.
  • Coordinate with project and field teams regarding material requirements, deliveries, and equipment needs to support efficient project operations.
  • Be responsible for own health and safety and that of colleagues, in accordance with current construction guidance and relevant legislation.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A motivated and hardworking individual with good verbal communication skills is essential.
  • Knowledge of warehousing, maintenance, construction or similar work in a similar environment is essential.
  • The ability to work without supervision and independently solve problems.
  • 1 year of plumbing, piping or similar experience.
  • Experience with welding and spray painting.
  • Knowledge of basic MS Excel functionalities is considered an asset.
  • Experience and licensing for skid steer operation is an essential requirement.

  • Experience within a warehousing or logistics environment is considered an asset

Working Conditions: Warehouse and Construction Yard Environment

  • Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking on uneven surfaces, and lifting of items up to fifty pounds. Bending, crouching, reaching, climbing, and operating construction equipment are often required to complete tasks.
  • Temperature Variability: The warehouse may not be climate-controlled, leading to exposure to extreme temperatures, especially during summer and winter months.
  • Exposure to Elements: Regular exposure to various weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, and cold. Work is often conducted outdoors in all seasons.
  • Noise Level: Expect a moderate to high noise level due to machinery, equipment, and other warehouse activities. Hearing protection may be required for certain tasks.
  • Safety Protocols: Adherence to all safety guidelines and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots, is mandatory.
  • Work Hours: Standard working hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Occasional flexibility in working hours may be required.
