We are currently recruiting for an Environmental Technologist Level I. Our team includes world-class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based at our Chemetics lab in Burnaby, BC. Reporting to the R&D Laboratory Manager, you will play a key role in developing innovative, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable solutions for industries such as chemical processing, water treatment, carbon capture, sulfur recovery, and non-ferrous metals. Your responsibilities will include setting up and operating laboratory and pilot-scale testing of advanced technologies and chemical processes, supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting laboratory operations and pilot-scale development, including hands-on technical work to build and maintain test units, install and maintain instrumentation, and collaborate with teams.
  • Supporting day-to-day lab operations, including safety audits, routine maintenance, and housekeeping.
  • Setting up and organizing small-scale test equipment; building and maintaining large-scale pilot units.
  • Installing, calibrating, and maintaining instrumentation and control systems (DeltaV, LabView, Siemens TIA Portal, etc.).
  • Conducting bench and pilot-scale testing, including sample preparation, quality control, and system commissioning.
  • Monitoring system performance to support process optimization.
  • Preparing technical documentation, including test procedures, project reports, and equipment specifications.
  • Assisting in the development and refinement of testing methodologies and procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate records of test results, inventory, and laboratory activities.
  • Collaborating with engineers, technicians, and vendors on design improvements and troubleshooting.
  • Managing the ordering, receiving, and shipping of lab supplies and equipment.
  • Serving as a technical resource across various projects, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Contributing to detailed designs, drawings, calculations, and specifications as needed.

What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory or pilot-scale testing environment.
  • Practical experience working with laboratory or process equipment.
  • Comfortable using hand tools to assemble and maintain equipment.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, especially with equipment, instruments, and test setups.
  • Ability to move items up to 30 lbs.
  • Interest in chemistry or instrumentation.

Education, Qualifications & Training

  • Diploma in Applied Science or Engineering Technology from a two-year accredited program.

For applicants based in British Columbia, the salary range is $68,000 to $80,000. Salary variation depends on qualifications, experience, location, internal pay equity, and market conditions.
