As an Environmental Technician, you will join our Alberta office(s) as part of our Western Ecological Services team. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of projects with responsibilities as follows:

  • Active participation in maintaining Montrose’s strong safety culture

  • Assisting with various tasks, including but not limited to field preparation, safety documentation, field work, and data management.

  • Working cooperatively with technical, health and safety, GIS, and administrative colleagues to successfully deliver our products.

  • Conducting standardized vegetation/weed identification

  • Assisting Project Managers and administrative staff with various tasks as they arise.

  • Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to: data management including data collection, entry, and review; contributing to field reports; preparing and submitting ground disturbance requests; hazard assessments; and sample processing and delivery.

  • Travel as required to support field programs

  • Assist with other service line projects when needed

What We Are Looking For

  • Working towards a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Science or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institute.

  • An absolute, and genuine dedication to safe work.

  • Ability to be productive while working independently as well as in a team setting.

  • Physical capacity for strenuous fieldwork, including augering deep inspection sites and walking several kilometres through rough terrain.

  • Results-oriented and efficient, with excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an affinity for working respectfully with colleagues and clients at all levels.

  • Proficient with computers and software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (at least an intermediate level of proficiency).

  • Comfortable using advanced GPS units or tablets.

  • Has energy and desire to support others and respond to the changing needs of a dynamic environment

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with clean drivers abstract, able to travel throughout the provinces and work weekends when necessary.

This is a permanent position with an hourly rate range of $25.00-$32.00, starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location.
