Intermediate Environmental Technologist

Edmonton, Alberta

The Liability Management & Restoration (LM&R) service line is seeking an Intermediate Environmental Technologist.

This position will be based in Edmonton, Alberta, and will contribute to the continued growth and success of the LM&R service line. The successful candidate will support Project Managers in all aspects of project execution, including coordination, environmental monitoring, water and soil sampling of remediation and decommissioning sites.

Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  1. Perform 60% of various types of fieldwork, including surface water/groundwater monitoring and sampling, soil sampling, drilling, test pitting, remedial excavations, and reclamation.
  2. Lead field programs and all aspects of project execution, performing tasks efficiently and accurately using standard methods and techniques.
  3. Prepare work plans and cost estimates.
  4. Lead environmental investigations including drilling, test pitting, logging, sampling, and monitoring well installations.
  5. Lead remediation programs including planning, subcontractor management, and execution.
  6. Lead groundwater and surface water monitoring.
  7. Supervise on-site safety and complete associated documentation.
  8. Track and report on field activities.
  9. Coordinate procurement of project supplies and contractor services.
  10. Supervise contractors on site.
  11. Train and mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

  1. University Degree or Technical Diploma from an accredited institution, plus appropriate continuing education.
  2. 3-7 years of practical experience, including field work.
  3. Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  4. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  5. Class 5 driver’s license.
  6. Relevant experience in Alberta and familiarity with Alberta regulations is an asset.
  7. Experience in the oil and gas industry or mining is considered an asset.
  8. Ability to work challenging and potentially extended hours under varying weather conditions.
  9. Working toward professional registration or certification, or recently certified.
