Job summary

Indwell in London, Ontario is seeking an Environmental Service Coordinator (Janitorial/Custodian) to maintain clean, safe buildings and support residents in housing stability. This full-time role collaborates with program staff and tenants to uphold high sanitation standards while aligning with Indwell's mission.

The position requires ability to lift 40lbs, a valid G license and access to a vehicle, and certifications in First Aid & CPR or willingness to obtain them.

Qualifications

  • PVSC clearance acceptable by Indwell at own cost.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days.
  • Basic understanding and compassion for individuals with mental health concerns/substance use.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs and work with cleaning chemicals safely.
  • Knowledge of cleaning supplies and MSDS; adherence to safety procedures.
  • Commitment to work independently and as part of a team; uphold policies.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure designated building areas are clean and stocked with supplies.
  • Execute heavy cleaning tasks and special projects as assigned.
  • Notify supervisor of any building or supply deficiencies.
  • Keep supply rooms stocked and well-maintained; communicate needs.
  • Work cooperatively with other team members.
  • Provide mentorship/supervision to tenant employees, if applicable.
  • Follow health and safety regulations and agency policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Salary: $45,186-$52,236
Position Description:

As an Environmental Service team member, you will be responsible for the cleaning and sanitation of buildings in London. In collaboration with our interdisciplinary teams, you will work within programs supporting residents who are experiencing mental health concerns and/or substance use and who require supports to maintain housing stability. You will prioritize stewarding resources to ensure high standards of cleaning quality while maintaining strong working relationships with program staff and tenants alike.

Hours of Work:

Full Time- 40 hours per week, primarily weekdays

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
  • Ensuring designated building areas are clean and stocked with supplies by performing tasks such as dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents and restrooms
  • Executing heavy cleaning tasks and special projects as assigned
  • Notifying supervisor/relevant team members of any observed deficiencies in the building or supplies
  • Keeping supply rooms stocked and well-maintained, making the supervisor aware of any requirements
  • Working cooperatively with other team members
  • Providing mentorship & supervision support to tenant employees, if applicable
  • Following all health and safety regulations
  • Being aware of and following all agency policies andprocedures
  • Additional duties asassigned
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
  • Prior experience in Environmental Services or Janitorial work is preferred but not required
  • Recent Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) with the information therein acceptable by Indwell to meet the operational requirements of the program- at one’s own cost
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certification from an approved provider that meets Ontario provincial standards or willingness to register for the training within 30 days of employment-reimbursement by Indwell
  • A basic understanding of and compassion for individuals who have experiencedmental health concerns and/or substance use
  • A warm, sensitive, and caring approach
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships and have a genuine interest in supporting people living with mental health concerns and/or substance use
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies, as well as familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Positive work ethic, integrity and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with other staff members
  • Full "G" license and own vehicle
  • Ability to lift 40lbs
  • Focus to follow proper safety procedures when handling cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Comfort with appropriate sharps disposal and training in biohazard clean-up are assets
  • Compliance to company policies and guidelines for cleanliness and sanitation
