Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking an Environmental Services staff member to clean and disinfect healthcare environments. You will perform sweeping, mopping, restocking, linen handling, and operate cleaning equipment across varied shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends) at the High Level Northwest Health Centre.

Training and hazard reporting are part of the role. Casual/Relief position with a Northern Allowance and travel expense reimbursement up to annual caps.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent.
• Knowledge and operation of computers and smartphones.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift.
• Physically capable to lift up to 25 lbs and push and pull up to 50 lbs of force.

Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect clinical and non-clinical healthcare environments.
• Sweep, mop and vacuum; restock bathroom supplies; strip linen and make beds.
• Operate cleaning equipment for floor maintenance and restoration; wash ceilings and windows.
• Empty hazardous waste and replenish cleaning supplies and linens.
• Identify hazards and report to supervisor; may train or orient staff.

Your Opportunity:

Northern Allowance:In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Alberta Health Services currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.Travel Expense Reimbursement:Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.

Description:

As an Environmental Services staff, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with cleaning and disinfecting clinical and non-clinical healthcare environments within a hospital or facility. Your typical duties may include sweeping, mopping and vacuuming; restocking supplies in bathroom facilities; stripping linen and making beds; operating industrial cleaning equipment for floor maintenance and restoration; thorough washing of ceilings and windows; emptying hazardous waste; and replenishing cleaning supplies and linens. You will also be responsible for identifying and reporting potential hazards to your Working Leader and you may also provide training or orientation to Environmental or Laundry staff.
